Tech Sweeps Spartans, Falls to Illinois

Softball finishes the weekend 2-2

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (5-4) completed the sweep of Michigan State on Saturday afternoon with a 10-3 victory over the Spartans before falling to Illinois 7-3 in the final game of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Georgia Tech celebrated honorary teammate Adrian Barhite pregame. Adrian is currently fighting Leukemia and the Yellow Jackets have adopted her as their honorary teammate this season.

Senior Katie Krzus launches a home run over center field, plating sophomore Tricia Awald to put Tech on the board 2-0 in the top of the first.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the top of the fourth, Krzus sends out her second home run of the game, a three-run dinger to give Tech back the lead at 6-3.

Junior Drew Puckett hits the first triple of the season for the Yellow Jackets in the top of the fourth.

Sophomore Breanna Roper brings freshman Bailee Zeitler around from first with a double to bring the score to 8-3 in the top of the fifth.

 

Georgia Tech 3, Illinois 7

In the top of the fourth, Awald launches a dinger over right center, scoring Roper to bring Tech within one at 3-2.

Awald sends her second home run of the game out over center field to bring the score to 6-3 in the top of the sixth.

Up next:
The Yellow Jackets finish out the six-game homestand on Wednesday, Feb 20 when they host Jacksonville State for a midweek matchup. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
