DETROIT — Georgia Tech football traveled to Detroit on Saturday in advance of Wednesday’s Quick Lane Bowl versus Minnesota at Ford Field.

Saturday’s highlights included:

• a 90-minute practice at Georgia Tech’s Rose Bowl Field before boarding buses to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport for the 90-minute flight to Detroit;

• a welcome dinner at The Henry Ford Museum, where student-athletes from both teams not only enjoyed a spectacular meal but also had the opportunity to tour one of the nation’s most comprehensive historical centers, which in the spirit of Georgia Tech, is dedicated to American ideas and innovation;
• Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson receiving a $5,000 check from Quick Lane to be donated to the Calvin Johnson, Jr. Foundation in the Jackets’ honor. Tech’s first-ever appearance in the Quick Lane Bowl is notable in that it will be played at Ford Field, where Johnson, one of the best wide receivers in the history of college and professional football, played for the Detroit Lions after being a two-time All-American as a Yellow Jacket.

Sunday’s agenda includes:

• practice at the Detroit Lions’ facility in Allen Park, Mich.;
• attending the Lions’ game versus the Minnesota Vikings at Ford Field;
• an evening “Fowling” event.
