THE FLATS – Bobby Mooney, a 6-7, 330-pound offensive lineman from Long Beach, Calif., has officially joined Georgia Tech football’s class of incoming freshmen for the 2022 season.
“We’re excited to welcome Bobby home to The Flats,” head coach Geoff Collins said. “His father, Mike, was a key member of Georgia Tech’s 1990 national championship team and a team captain in 1999, and we’re ecstatic that Bobby has chosen to follow in his footsteps. Like all of our newcomers, Bobby is a great young man with a chance to be a special player. I can’t wait to start working with him and our entire 2022 team this summer.”
Mooney is the 15th member of Georgia Tech’s incoming class of true freshmen. Eight of the 15 are four-star prospects according to Rivals, 247Sports and/or ESPN. Four of the eight earned four-star status from Rivals, which is the Yellow Jackets’ second-highest of four-star recruits since Rivals began its rankings in 2002, trailing only the famed 2007 recruiting class that included future Tech stars Derrick Morgan, Morgan Burnett, Joshua Nesbitt and Jonathan Dwyer.
The Jackets’ newcomers also currently includes seven transfers that enrolled at Georgia Tech at the beginning of the semester and participated in spring practices. Tech’s incoming transfers ranked No. 20 nationally and No. 2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference at the time of their enrollment.
