COLUMBUS, OH – Both Kristi Miller and Kirsten Flower won their first-round matches at the ITA National Indoor Championships to advance to the Round of 16 at the second national collegiate tennis championship of the 2006-07 season.
Miller, the No. 3 seed in the single tournament, stopped Notre Dame’s Cismina Ciobanu in the first round, 6-3, 6-1, while Flower defeated the 2005 ITA National Indoors singles finalist, fifth-seeded Theresa Logar of Stanford, 6-4, 6-4.
The two players will continue their quest for the title Friday morning when Miller faces either Zsuzsanna Fodor of California or Blakeley Griffith of Tennessee, while Flower faces a familiar face in Shadisha Robinson of South Florida.
Flower defeated Robinson in straight sets at the ITA South Regional two weeks ago to advance to the final against Miller.
Earlier in the day, Miller teamed with Alison Silverio in the first round of the doubles tournament and the Yellow Jacket duo dropped an 8-5 decision to Notre Dame’s tandem of Brook Buck and Kelcey Tefft. The Tech team will play their first consolation match Friday morning against Northwestern’s Georgia Rose and Alexis Prousis.
