Michael Devoe Named ACC Player of the Week

THE FLATS – Following his stellar 37-point effort in Georgia tech’s Friday night victory at Georgia, senior guard Michael Devoe has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week in voting by a 15-member panel.

Devoe had two excellent all-around games in leading the Yellow Jackets to a pair of victories last week over Lamar (75-66) and Georgia (88-78).

He beat his previous career high by three with his 37 points at Georgia, a very efficient game in which he connected on 14 of 18 field goal attempts, including four of five from three-point range. He scored nine of his points in the final 4:34 as the Yellow Jackets outscored the Bulldogs 17-5 to win going away. The 6-5 guard’s first two baskets in the run tied the game and put Tech ahead for good. He also collected seven rebounds and dished five assists in the game

The Orlando, Fla., native scored 11 points with six assists and seven rebounds earlier last week to help Tech hold off Lamar.

Devoe, who was named pre-season All-ACC second team, currently leads the ACC in scoring at 22.8 points per game, ranks third in assists at 5.3 per game, and third in three-point FG percentage (.650).

Duke forward AJ Griffin was chosen as Freshman of the Week. ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

Tech returns to action Monday night with a 7 p.m. tip against Charleston Southern at McCamish Pavilion. The game will be televised live on the ACC Network.
