Men's Tennis Ready for ITA Kickoff Weekend

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis will be on the road for the first time this spring season when they compete at ITA Kickoff Weekend in Charlottesville, Va.

The Jackets start the weekend on Saturday with a match against Middle Tennessee State at 9 a.m. Following their match, Ball State and hosts Virginia will compete at 12 p.m.

The slate continues on Sunday with a consolation match at 10 a.m. followed by a championship match at 1 p.m. The winner of the championship match earns a spot at ITA Indoor Nationals in Seattle, Wash from Feb. 18-21.

The Yellow Jackets are coming off their first pair of dual matches this prior weekend. On Friday, Jan. 21, Tech took on Georgia State coming away with a 4-3 victory. Despite the close score, if the match was played to clinch, Georgia Tech would have won 4-0.

The second match of the weekend came against The Citadel. Tech cruised to a 5-2 victory in the match, only dropping points due to forfeits on No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Individually there were a few standouts over the weekend. The No. 9 ranked singles player in the nation Andres Martin made quick work of his singles matches. Both matches were completed in under an hour as he won 6-4, 6-1 against Georgia State and 6-2, 6-0 against The Citadel.

Keshav Chopra has come out on fire during the spring season. Chopra won ACC Player of the Week after his performance at the MLK Invitational going 3-0 in both singles and doubles. He followed it up by not dropping a set in his four matches against Georgia State and The Citadel.
