THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis has a top five representative across all three ITA Collegiate Tennis Regional Rankings, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The doubles rankings saw Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel ranked second in the southeast region. The dynamic duo had a spectacular 2021-22 season which started in the fall season when the pairing won the ITA Southeast Regional draw and advanced to the semifinals of ITA Fall Nationals. Martin/McDaniel entered the spring season ranked No. 3 in the nation.
The pair of Jackets would gain a win over the No. 9 pairing in the nation at the time Fishback/Chrysostom of Virginia Tech and beat Murgett/Maclean of Auburn who ended the season ranked as the No. 8 doubles team.
Martin also earned a top five spot in the singles rankings. His fantastic 2021-2022 season started with winning the ITA Southeast Regional draw. Martin would enter the spring season ranked No. 9 in the nation earning a win over Phillip Hennig of Georgia who was ranked No. 25 in the nation at the time and Tyler Stice of Auburn who finished ranked No. 23 in the nation.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets were ranked No. 5 in the southeast region. Tech is one of three teams to have three top 20 singles players ranked in the southeast region with McDaniel (No. 17) and Keshav Chopra (No. 19) joining Martin in vaunted No. 1-3 singles lineup for the White and Gold.
