Men's Tennis Concludes Action at the ITA South Regional Championship

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Jose Luis Muguruza advanced to the semifinals of the ITA South Regional Championship. David North and Zachary Rath teamed up to advance to the quarterfinals in doubles action.

Muguruza, a sophomore from Wesley Chapel, Fla., faced Clemson’s Nathan Thompson Sunday morning in the quarterfinals. The seventh seeded Muguruza made short work of the fourth seeded Thompson winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. In semifinal action, Muguruza squared off against Amaud Lecloerec of VCU. Muguruza took the first set from the number eight seed 6-4. Lecloerec claimed the second set 6-4 to set up the deciding third set. In the final set, Muguruza fell 6-3 to lose the match.

In doubles action, the Yellow Jacket tandem of North and Rath squared off against conference foes Nick Methayler and Rylan Rizza of Virginia in the quarterfinals. The ninth seeded duo North and Rath fell in a hard fought match to the number one seeded Virginia pair.
