Meet the Signee: Volleyball's Ashlyn Goolsby

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball has made three offseason additions to its 2021 signing class. The three future Jackets will join 12 returning current players, including all six regular starters. The second of its offseason signings is incoming freshman Ashlyn Goolsby.

Goolsby will remain close to home upon her arrival on the Flats as she hails from Mariette, Ga. The future Jacket setter follows her Tech family legacy as her father, Brent, played football for the Ramblin’ Wreck from 1988-92 while her mother, grandfather and cousin are all Georgia Tech grads as well.

Goolsby spent her high school playing career at Walton High School, where she was a four-year letter winner and a two-year captain. The incoming freshman helped lead the Raiders to become Georgia’s 7A State Champions for three consecutive years from 2017-19 as well as Georgia’s 3-7A Regional Champions all four of her high school years from 2017-20. On a national scale, her squad also captured the 2018 PrepVolleyball National Championship.

Individually, the highly-touted recruit has garnered a bevy of honors and recognitions. In 2020 alone, Goolsby was named to the PrepVolleyball All-America Team, Georgia Class 7A Player of the Year, Georgia All-State, MaxPreps Top 50, 3-7A All-Area Team and to the Georgia Senior All Star Team. She was named MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Week during her senior year and to the UnderArmour All-American Watch List coming into the season. In 2019, she was also named to the 3-7A All-Area Team as well as USAV All-Tournament 16 National Team and a PrepVolleyball AAU All-American.

In the stat column, Goolsby justified her honors by tallying 1,583 assists over her four-year high school career. During her senior season alone, she piled up 481 digs, 61 aces and 128 kills along with averaging 10.6 assists per set.

The Marietta, Ga. native has excelled not only on the court, but in the classroom as well. For the entirety of her four-year high school academia, Goolsby was named to the Dean’s List, the 4.0 Club, a Scholar Athlete and an Academic Letter Winner.

Once enrolled at Georgia Tech, Goolsby plans to major in business administration with aspirations of obtaining a management position with a large company.

Georgia Tech now prepares for its upcoming fall slate after concluding the 2020-21 season by advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship for the first time since 2004. The Yellow Jackets took down Lipscomb in the First Round for their first NCAA Tournament win in nearly 21 years. The berth in the Big Dance alone marked the 10th time in program history, the first for the Yellow Jackets since 2009 and the first appearance under coach Michelle Collier.

Tech had three Jackets receive yearly honors in Mariana Brambilla (AVCA All-American, All-ACC First Team), Julia Bergmann (AVCA All-American, All-ACC First Team) and Matti McKissock (All-ACC Second Team), each of whom will return next season.
