Lee Advances in NCAA Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – In the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championships, Carol Lee cruised to a straight-set decision, securing a place in the second round on Tuesday. The singles and doubles championships are being held at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Illinois.

Facing Maria Titova of Kansas in the first round, Lee erased an early 2-0 deficit in the first set to climb back on serve, 2-all. After exchanging the next two games to a 3-3 standstill, Lee rattled off three games to take the first set, 6-3.

The sophomore raced out in the second set with a 3-0 lead and carried momentum to the finish. Lee won a hard-fought deuce point to secure a 5-1 advantage and closed out the match, 6-2.

UP NEXT
Lee advances to second round action and will face Virginia’s top-seeded Emma Navarro on Tuesday. Doubles action also gets underway on Tuesday and Tech will also be represented by a pair of doubles teams in the opening round.
