Lamprecht Set to Compete in Spirit International

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Christo Lamprecht (George, South Africa) has been selected as the captain of the South African team that will compete against 19+ other countries Thursday through Saturday in the 2021 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.

The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship is a premiere golf event featuring the world’s best men and women amateur golfers representing their respective countries in team and individual competitions. The biennial event staged for the 10th time in 2021, is a premier amateur competition featuring the world’s best men and women amateur golfers representing their respective countries in team and individual play.

Lamprecht, currently ranked No. 112 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, is the fourth-highest ranked South African player. The 6-foot-8 sophomore is ranked No. 43 in the nation among collegiate players following a fall season in which he posted four top-25 finishes, two of those in the top 10, including a runner-up performance in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. He finished his freshman year No. 78 nationally.

On the amateur circuit, Lamprecht had top-20 finishes last summer at the Monroe Invitational and The Dogwood. He is a member of the South African national team and has played four times in South African Open Championship (he was youngest player in the field when he made his debut in 2018). He was the youngest player ever to win the South African Amateur in 2017, and competed for South Africa in the Junior Presidents Cup in 2017 and 2019.

Joining Lamprecht on the South African team are Keiron Van Wyk, who plays collegiately at the College of Charleston, Caitlyn MacNab (TCU) and Kaylah Williams (Florida State).

Former Yellow Jacket All-American Andy Ogletree, who won the 2019 U.S. Amateur championship, played for Team USA that year. The American team defeated South Africa by two strokes in the men’s team competition. South Africa tied for ninth in the combined international competition.

The Spirit features 80 competitors from 20 countries. It is a 54-hole competition with five concurrent competition categories: international team, men’s team and women’s team, and men’s and women’s individual stroke play competitions. Gold, Silver and Bronze commemorative medals are awarded to the top three in each competition.

A live stream will be available during competition on GolfChannel.com, the NBC Sports app and on TheSpiritGolf.com. GOLF Channel will present the highlight show in primetime, from 7-9 pm ET on Dec. 9, followed by an encore presentation on Dec. 11 from 4-6 pm ET.
