THE FLATS – First baseman Andrew Jenkins was lauded for his performance last week as No. 12 Georgia Tech baseball got wins against Jackson State and Wake Forest, being named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball.
Jenkins caught fire on the week, crushing four home runs in just two games. On the four games total, the Atlanta native drove in nine runs, going 8-for-17 overall, hitting .471, slugging 1.176 and reaching base at a .550 clip. He also drew two walks and a hit-by-pitch and struck out just three times.
He started the week by hitting two home runs for four RBI against Jackson State. Then, after being held to just one hit on Friday against Wake Forest, he launched two homers for three RBI on Saturday and went 3-for-4 for two RBI on Sunday.
On the season, Jenkins is hitting a blistering .363 with 29 hits, five doubles and five home runs for 22 RBI. He ranks ninth in the ACC in hits and ranks sixth nationally in runs (28).
