THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball was unable to get the key hit when it needed it, getting nine hits but just two runs as No. 3 Miami escaped the sweep, 13-2, on Sunday at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (27-18, 12-12 ACC) were led at the plate by another multi-hit day from Chandler Simpson, who finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Stephen Reid and Tres Gonzalez also contributed two hits, while Kevin Parada, Drew Compton and Jadyn Jackson also pitched in a hit.
On the mound, Tech used six pitchers overall. Starter RHP Chance Huff (3-3) received the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings. LHP Sam Crawford steadied the game with 2.0 innings across the middle of scoreless work, striking out two.
The Hurricanes (32-12, 17-7 ACC) were led by Yohandy Morales, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles. RHP Alejandro Rosario (2-2) earned the win with just one run allowed on seven hits in 5.0 innings.
Georgia Tech returns to the road next week when it heads to Clemson on May 6-8. First pitches are scheduled for 7 p.m., 3 p.m., 1 p.m., respectively with Friday nationally broadcast on ACC Network.
