Jackets Travel to South Carolina for Doubleheader

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball will hit the road for its next fall competition, heading to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.

South Carolina finished last spring at an even 26-26 overall. The Gamecocks were 18-13 at home and 5-2 in neutral games as they advanced to the second round of the SEC tournament to conclude the season. Already with five games under its belt this fall, South Carolina recently took on another ACC foe in Duke, falling 8-0.

Georgia Tech enters its fifth season under coach Aileen Morales, bringing back 15 returners from last season’s squad. Among the notable returners are Justin’s World of Softball Third Team All-American, NFCA First Team All-Region and First Team All-ACC first baseman Tricia Awald along with First Team All-ACC and All-ACC Freshman Team catcher Emma Kauf. The decorated duo is joined by ace right-hander Blake Neleman as well as regular starting middle infielders Bailee Zeitler and Jin Sileo.

The stable of returners is bolstered by the Yellow Jackets’ No. 17 ranked recruiting class, tabbed second amongst the ACC and composed of eight highly-touted new Jackets.

Georgia Tech will return home for the remainder of its fall slate, next hosting North Georgia on Oct. 17 at noon before wrapping up competition hosting Emory on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m.
