Jackets Take Down Hokies, 4-3

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (13-12, 4-7 ACC) started the weekend off with a solid 4-3 victory over Virginia Tech (8-15, 2-9 ACC).

Tech gained a 1-0 advantage after claiming the doubles points. Andres Martin and Keshav Chopra dominated Virginia Tech’s No. 20 Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback, 6-1. With each team winning a doubles match, it came down to the decision on court two. Marcus McDaniel and Brandon McKinney granted Tech the doubles point with a hard-fought 7-6 [8-6] victory over Alvaro Arizo and Scott Sculley.

Tech’s first two wins in singles play came from No. 9 Martin and No. 74 McDaniel. Both Jackets took down their opponents in two-straight sets. McDaniel finished first with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Virginia Tech’s Ariza. Martin followed with his 14th victory over a nationally-ranked player this season, defeating No. 44 Fishback in a 6-3, 6-4 decision.

Once again, No. 79 Chopra clinched the match for the Jackets. Tech was leading the Hokies 3-2 before Chopra won his singles match. The junior defeated Virginia Tech’s Scott Sculley in a 6-3, 6-4 decision.
