Jackets Sport Successful Season Debut at USTA Invitational

THE FLATS –  Georgia Tech men’s tennis capped its first tournament of the fall slate this past weekend at the USTA Collegiate Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas. The Jackets’ trip was highlighted by a slew of victories over Auburn and Michigan.

The first round of singles play began on Friday as senior Phillip Gresk took down Michigan’s Gabe Tishman. Sophomore Brandon Freestone grabbed another victory for Tech over Michael Durham of Auburn, taking straight sets. Friday’s action concluded with freshman Cole Gromley battling it out in three sets to win against Michigan junior Nick Beaty.

Doubles matches tipped off Saturday with Andrew Li and Gromley dominating Michigan duo Beaty/Foreman 6-2. Gresk and Freestone also had great performances going 2-0 on the day in doubles action.

Summing up singles play on Saturday, the Jackets secured four victories. Gresk, Freestone and Gromley all finished out the tournament with a 2-0 record in singles.
