JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Junior Brandy Depland tallied two top-six finishes in the triple jump (41’4.50″) and long jump (19’4″) to lead the women’s track and field team at the Niswonger Invitational on Friday night. Senior Eric Massey posted a seventh-place finish in the weight throw with a personal-record toss of 55’4″ to lead the men’s track and field team.
Junior Chaunte Howard posted a Tech season-best leap of 19’11.50″ in the women’s long jump to finish fourth. Freshman Jerome Miller tallied a mark of 6’8″ in the men’s high jump to finish in fourth place.
Senior Jennifer Lentz crossed the finish line in fourth place in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:14.21. Fellow senior teammate Dore’ Madere tallied an eighth-place finish in the women’s weight throw with a personal-record throw of 53’0.75″.
Sophomore James Lemons II led the Yellow Jackets in the men’s long jump with a personal-record mark of 48’8″, finishing seventh. Junior Kira Barcus finished eighth in the women’s pole vault with a clear of 10’0″.
Several Jackets qualified for the finals tomorrow in numerous events. Leading the way was junior Andriane Lapsley with a second-place finish in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash (7.49) and a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters (24.51) to advance to the finals. Sophomore Ashlee Kidd also qualified for the finals in two events with times of 24.38 and 55.94 in the 200 and 400 meters, respectively, finishing first in the 400 and third in the 200.
Senior Brian Ford led the Tech men in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 49.02 to solidify a place in the finals tomorrow afternoon. The men’s 4×400-meter relay also advanced to the finals on Saturday with a season-best time of 3:16.33.
In the women’s 60-meter high hurdles, senior Dana Rogers and freshman Shantia Moss qualified for the finals with times of 8.46 and 8.47 finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
Freshman Antoinetta McKay posted a season-best time of 25.30 in the women’s 200-meter dash to finish in 10th place.
The Niswonger Invitational will conclude on Saturday and can be followed on Niswonger Invitational.
