ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will start the indoor season this Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3, at the Clemson Opener in Clemson, S.C. The meet will begin with the Distance Medley Relay at 5 p.m. on Friday.
“We will only take a certain amount of athletes,” said women’s track head coach Alan Drosky. “We have a mix of veterans like Ashlee Kidd and Andriane Lapsley going, along with some freshman which will get an opportunity to prove what they can do in a collegiate competition. We’re excited to see what they can do.”
Junior Ashlee Kidd returns for the Jackets after earning All-America honors in the 400 meters and 4×100-meter relay at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships last season. Senior Andriane Lapsley won three Atlantic Coast Conference titles during her junior season (60m, 90m, 4×100) and garnered All-America honors in the 4×100, while sophomore Shantrell Moss is the third and final member of the 4x100m relay team that earned All-America honors last year.
Senior Brandy Depland earned All-America honors in the women’s triple jump last season and is poised to be one of the top jumpers in the ACC again this season.
Junior Fatmata Fofanah and sophomore Shantia Moss are coming off all-conference performances in the sprint hurdles for the Yellow Jackets. Fofanah won the ACC title in the 100-meter high hurdles at the 2006 ACC Outdoor Championships, while Moss garnered all-conference honors in the 60m hurdles at the 2006 ACC Indoor Championships.
