THE FLATS — The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (5-5) lost to Tennessee, 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
The Jackets started off strong winning the doubles point with victories from Josesph Gandolfo/Chris Yun over Adam Walton/Timo Stodder, and Brandon Freestone/Andrew Li over Andrew Rogers/Martim Prata.
In singles, No. 106 Cole Gromley, came back to win his match over Luca Wiedenmann, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, after dropping the first set.
Phillip Gresk and Gandolfo both lost their matches. Gresk, fell to No. 94 Walton, 6-1, 6-1, while Gandolfo fell to Rogers, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
Chris Yun also lost a tough battle falling to Preston Touliatos, 7 (7) – 6, 7 (7), 6.
With the Volunteers leading 3-2 Carlos Divar and Li did their best to overcome the deficit, but fell just short.
Li dropped his match to Scott Jones, 4-6, 7 (9) – 6, 7-5. Divar’s match was called early after Li’s defeat clinched the match for Tennessee.
Divar was leading No. 113 Stodder, 4-6, 7 (9) – 6, 6-5.
The Jackets will be back in action on Friday, March 1st at 5:00 p.m. to face Florida State.
