Jackets Fall to Hokies, 6-1

Blacksburg, Va. – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team suffered their sixth straight loss falling, 6-1, to Virginia Tech Friday afternoon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus. The Jackets slipped to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Jackets dropped all three doubles matches giving the Hokies the first point of the afternoon. Georgia Tech earned their lone point when Zach Rath came away with their only singles victory, a three-set win over Brandon Corace in the fifth singles spot.

Jose Muguruza fell to Arvid Puranen, ranked 49th nationally, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7) in the No. 1 match while Eric Molnar dropped the No. 2 contest to Albert Larregola, 7-6 (1), 6-4. In other singles results, Jordan DeLass fell to Nicolas Delgado at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2. Scott Blackmon was defeated by Yoann Re, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 4 and Pedro Graber downed George Gvelesiani, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Georgia Tech will stay in Virginia traveling to Charlottesville to face the Cavaliers on Sunday, April 1 at 1 p.m.

The Jackets’ next home match is on April 6 at 2 p.m. when they host NC State at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
