THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis dropped its first home match of the season on Friday evening when it fell 5-2 to Clemson at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

The Yellow Jackets (3-5) and Tigers (6-1) began the match outdoors, but after adverse weather entered the area play was moved indoors

Tech was unable to take the doubles point as the 33rd-ranked duo of Alex Favrot and Simon Baudry from Clemson downed Carlos Divar and Michael Kay 6-3 at the No. 1. Shortly after, the Jackets’ Chris Yun and Andrew Li fell 6-2 to Marshall Dagostine and Carlos Kelaidis.

Continuing to fight, Georgia Tech tied up the match 1-1 after Phillip Gresk took the No. 4 singles, downing Yizhou Liu handily, 6-1, 6-1. Once indoors, the Yellow Jackets even went up 2-1 after Kay was able to battle back from a second-set loss to defeat Dagostine, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.

Clemson then turned the tide when Baudry defeated Li at the No. 2, 6-3, 6-4 after Li had battled to a 4-all tie in the second set. No. 39 Divar had pushed No. 91 Favrot into a 6-all tiebreak in the second-set of the No. 1, but wound up dropping the match 6-4, 7-6 (5).

More tiebreaks went against the Yellow Jackets as Chris Yun fell to Kelaidis, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at the No. 5 singles and Clemson’s Sam Edwards defeated Elijah Melendez in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
