Athens, Ga. – Juan Spir bowed out of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in both singles and doubles Sunday, dropping a 7-6, 6-4 decision to Hernus Pieters of Georgia, while he and Eduardo Segura fell to the Georgia duo of Nathan Pasha and Ben Wagland in the round of 16 doubles.
Spir and Segura had advanced to the round of 16 with a second-round win walk-over against Adrian Forberg Skogeng and Zach Wilder of Ole Miss.
Freshman Garrett Gordon and Vikram Hundal made the quarterfinals in Division II doubles Sunday, defeating Furman’s Richard Cassagrande and Alex Christ, 8-4, in the round of 16, but fell to Grayson Mills and Rafael Berghaus of Presbyterian, 8-5.
Juan Melian and Nathan Rakitt dropped an 8-6 decision to North Florida’s Beauregard Treyz and Mark Hamill in Division II doubles.
Tech picked up a couple of consolations wins in singles Sunday, as Gordon defeated Mercer’s Joao Pagan, who retired after falling behind 2-0, and freshman Anish Sharma downed Wictor Andersson of Georgia College, 6-1, 6-4.
