CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — On the first day of the ACC Outdoor Championship, the Georgia Tech track and field saw four student-athletes earn personal bests on Thursday afternoon at Lannigan Field.
Both Tyson Spears and Ryan Thomas jumped personal-best marks in the men’s long jump and finished in the top 10. Spears finished with a mark of 7.50m turning in a fifth-place finish, earning second-team All-ACC honors, while Thomas finished in 8th with a mark of 7.49m.
On the women’s side, Amy Ruiz and Dasia Smith led the way. Ruiz finished with the best time for the Jackets, earning a 12th place time in the women’s 1500-meter event, with a time of 4:26.38.
Smith jumped 6.10m in the women’s long jump to not only earn a personal record, but also a 9th place finish.
Day two of the ACC Outdoor Championship will begin tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with the men’s 110m hurdles.
