ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech outdoor track and field finished the first day of competition at the Spec Towns Invitational on Friday evening, finishing day one with four top-five finishes.
Shannon Innis led the way for Georgia Tech on Friday, finishing second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.17.
The men’s team were able to run well in the 1500m, getting three top-10 finishers. Mike Reilly fell just shy of a personal record by finishing fifth with a time of 3:56.77, before Patrick Fleming finishing eighth in the 1500m with a time of 4:00.29. Matt McBrien fell just behind them, finishing ninth (4:02.70).
Anthony Steets set a personal record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.59 to finish third overall. Meanwhile, Maurice Simpson also had a fine outing in the 200m, running a 21.93 to finish fifth in the event.
Anna Hightower had a fine outing, finishing sixth in the pole vault with a final clearance of 3.81 meters – just 0.04 meters off of her season best.
The second day of events is scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m. for Georgia Tech.
