If You Can Hardly Wait For Football, Then This Event Is A Must

OK, so there won’t be any contact and nobody is going to score, but if you’re going a little crazy waiting for football to start, the next best thing might be Georgia Tech’s “Can’t Wait Til Kickoff” Luncheon.

Doors will open at the Cobb Galleria at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, or eight days before the Yellow Jackets open the season against South Carolina State in Bobby Dodd Stadium.

In some ways, the atmosphere will be the closest you can find to being in the stadium on Sept. 4.

“We’ll have the band there, cheerleaders, Buzz, the Wreck; it will be a gold and white bonanza,” said Wayne Hogan, associate director of athletics-public relations. “We’ll have a lot of highlight video, and some sneak peeks for what to look forward to this season. It will be action packed.”

Select players will be at the event, and will sit at tables with fans and interact before and after several speakers, including coach Paul Johnson and perhaps even some players, take turns at the microphone.

Wes Durham, Voice of the Yellow Jackets, will emcee. Former Georgia Tech player Sam Bracken, author of, “My Orange Duffel Bag,” Tech graduate Steve Zelnak, CEO of Martin Marietta Materials, and athletics director Dan Radakovich will speak as well.

The Atlanta Touchdown Club will present Johnson with its Coach of the Year Award – a ceremony that was scheduled to take place at halftime of the Spring Game but was postponed after a sudden and powerful storm cancelled the second half.

Tech merchandise and apparel will be available, and this event promises to be a great way to not only get close to Coach Johnson and several players, but to do it in an air-conditioned environment.

Tickets are available for $40 per individual, or a table for 10 can be purchased for $350. Click here to buy tickets.
