THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis dropped their match to No. 30 Miami on Thursday, 4-3.
In doubles action, The No. 6 doubles team in the nation of Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel took their match 6-2. A pivotal break point came on Miami’s second serve. Miami was playing up at the net and put away what would have been the game winning point but a net violation was called, allowing Martin/McDaniel to go up a break before eventually taking the match.
With the doubles point tied at 1-1, the attention moved to court three with the match tied 4-4. Tech fell behind 40-30 in the game before Ángel Guerrero Melgar served two aces to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-4 lead. Miami would break the next Georgia Tech serve leading to a 7-5 victory and the doubles point going to Miami.
In singles action, McDaniel made quick work of his singles match on court two, taking the match 6-1, 6-3 and leveling the team score at 1. Keshav Chopra was the next to Jacket to win a match. He was tied 5-5 in the second set with Miami on serve, Chopra broke that serve eventually winning the set 7-5.
On court four, Chen Dong would battle back after losing the first set of his match to win he match 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. The team score was now tied at 3 all with court one still in action. Miami was up 2-1 and would eventually win 6-4 on the court taking the match 4-3.
The White and Gold host senior day on Saturday against Florida State starting at noon.
