THE FLATS – Georgia Tech President Dr. G.P. “Bud” Peterson, director of athletics Todd Stansbury and football head coach Paul Johnson have extended invitations to those displaced by Hurricane Michael to attend Saturday’s Georgia Tech-Duke football game free of charge, Georgia Tech athletics announced on Thursday. Kickoff for Georgia Tech’s homecoming contest and pivotal Atlantic Coast Conference matchup is set for 12:20 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Georgia Tech’s Midtown Atlanta campus.
Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina residents that live in counties under a state of emergency can claim tickets for themselves and members of their immediate families beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the top level of Peters Parking Deck, next to its bag valet station. Peters Parking Deck is located just north of Bobby Dodd Stadium, bordered by Bobby Dodd Way, Brittain Drive, Fowler Street and Fourth Street.
Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. All that is needed to claim tickets is a valid state-issued I.D.
Last year, Georgia Tech made the offer for victims of Hurricane Irma to attend the Yellow Jackets’ 2017 season opener versus Jacksonville State at Bobby Dodd Stadium. More than 600 tickets were distributed to those who were displaced by that storm.
“Georgia Tech finds itself in a unique position to offer what we hope can be a much-needed distraction of family fun and great college football for families displaced by a hurricane that has devastated parts of our region,” Stansbury said. “We welcome any and all who have been displaced by Hurricane Michael to come out and be a part of our family for homecoming festivities on The Flats. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the storm and we will continue to try to identify ways that Georgia Tech athletics can assist with the relief and recovery efforts.”
In addition to the 12:20 p.m. contest between the Yellow Jackets and Blue Devils, Saturday’s gameday festivities also include Wreckfest (a family-friendly pregame celebration featuring live music, interactive games and inflatables), Yellow Jacket Alley (an opportunity for fans to cheer on Georgia Tech’s student-athletes and coaches up close as they enter Bobby Dodd Stadium) and performances by the Georgia Tech Marching Band at the Campanile (in the center of GT’s campus) and Callaway Plaza (on the north end of Bobby Dodd Stadium, off Bobby Dodd Way).
Wreckfest begins on Saturday at 9:20 a.m. at Callaway Plaza, followed by Yellow Jacket Alley at 10 a.m. and the GT Marching Band performances at the Campanile and Callaway Plaza at 10:55 a.m. and 11:25 a.m., respectively.
