CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Georgia Tech’s Guillermo Gomez earned his ninth-straight victory to advance to the quarterfinals of the ITA Wilson Mideast Region Championships on the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club on Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
Gomez defeated Nicholas Delgado of Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia Tech, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 16 match. After falling behind early, Gomez battled back in the second set, breaking Delgado to go ahead 2-0 and never looked back.
“Guillermo played a very tough match today,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “After losing his first set, he didn’t get down on himself and continued to battle. He played very aggressive and finished his opponent off very well.”
With this win, Gomez will play No. 9 seed Dominic Inglot of Virginia on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
