Gibbs' Mile Mark Leads Track & Field Friday

Senior E.C. Gibbs’ fifth-place finish in the mile at the Tyson Invitational highlights day one action for the Georgia Tech track & field teams Friday.

Gibbs ran a 4:07.32 in the Olympic Development segment of the meet, filled with some of the top mile distance runners in the nation.

Heading over to the Clemson Invitational, sophomore Nathan Tew posted a fifth-place finish of his own, with a15:23.42 time in the 5,000 meter run. Also having good performances were seniors Matt DiDia (50.32) and Veronica Kinard (18:59.16), who finished seventh in the men’s 400 meter and women’s 5,000 meter run, respectively.

Finishing the day off on the strong note in Clemson was the distance medley relay team of junior Tim Guglielmo, senior DeMario Johnson, freshman Derek Bastien and junior Mohamed Himedan. The group finished third in the event in a time of 10:22.40.

The Jackets continue action at the Tyson Invitationa, Clemson Invitational and Iowa State Classic Saturday.
