ATLANTA – Georgia Tech senior Jillian O’Neill was named to the 2012 All-ACC women’s tennis team today, announced by Commissioner John Swofford.
O’Neill, who is currently ranked No. 14 in the Campbell’s/ITA Division I rankings, has earned All-ACC honors in each of her two years at Georgia Tech. The Montreal, Canada, native has played the No. 1 spot of the Georgia Tech lineup all season and owns a 27-11 overall record and a 16-8 record this spring, including nine wins over nationally ranked opponents.
In doubles, O’Neill and teammate Alex Anghelescu are ranked No. 16 nationally are 14-9 overall this season and have seven wins over ranked opponents. O’Neill has racked up over 50 singles wins during her two years on the Flats and 35 doubles wins, winning over 65 percent of all matches during that time.
“I am very proud of what Jillian has accomplished over the past two seasons,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “We are in the toughest conference in the country and to be named All-ACC is quite a feat. The work she has put in both on and off the court has propelled her in the rankings and has enabled her to win even when she doesn’t have her best ball striking days. Her consistency in hardly ever missing a practice or match has been impressive. Jillian has come a long way and I am excited for what is still to come.”
In search of their fifth ACC Tournament title, the Yellow Jackets begin the ACC Tournament against Maryland at 3 p.m. today. Live scoring is available at RamblinWreck.com.
