ATLANTA – Junior Nisha Kurian crossed the line third (14:03.84) and helped the Georgia Tech women’s cross country team to a third place finish at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn.
Tech junior Elena Linn ran the 4k race in 14:27.70 for a 10th place finish, while freshman Kiersten Petersen placed 14th (14:36.61) and senior Mary Chind came in 16th with a time of 14:48.42. Also placing in the top-25 was junior Maria Hampton (20th) with a time of 14:56.52 and freshman Carola Conces (23rd) posting a time of 15:05.95.
On the men’s side, senior David Herren led the way, finishing 11th in the 5k race with a time of 15:14.74. Herren’s time helped the men’s cross country team to a fourth place finish overall. Also finishing in the top-20 was sophomore E.C. Gibbs, who placed 18th (15:44.20). Sophomore James Taylor had a good race for the Jackets, coming in 27th (16:02.46).
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Friday, September 15, 2006, at the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn.
