ATLANTA – Two members of both the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s tennis teams were included in the preseason singles and doubles rankings as released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on September 3. Yellow Jacket senior All-American Scott Schnugg and 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year Kelly Anderson were both among the top 100 singles players in the nation, while both are members of ranked doubles teams.
Schnugg, who earned All-America recognition a year ago after finishing the year ranked 10th in doubles with partner Roger Anderson, enters the 2004 campaign as the country’s 65th-ranked singles competitor. He led the team a year ago in singles victories with a 26-14 overall record, while playing in the second position in the Tech lineup. Schnugg and rookie Jose Muguruza will play at the top of the Yellow Jacket doubles lineup this year and begin the season ranked 28th in the preseason poll.
Anderson made an immediate impact in 2003 after joining the team for the spring semester. During the dual-match season, she recorded a 14-5 mark in singles player, while competing near the top of the Georgia Tech lineup. Anderson will begin the year ranked 98th in singles and will team with freshman Lindsey Stauss to form the 32nd-ranked doubles tandem in the preseason.
The Yellow Jackets’ men’s team will begin their season on September 19-22 at the Georgia Fall Invitational in Athens, Ga., while the women open the fall the same weekend at the William & Mary Fall Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
