Georgia Tech Shines At Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior Aaron Unterberger took first in the pole vault and set a new oersonal outdoor record as Tech shined Friday on the first day of the Alabama Relays with three victories.

With a height of 5.30m (17’4.50”), Unterberger won the event and set a new PR.

For the second straight weekend, junior Jonathan Gardner took first in the triple jump. Gardner picked up the victory with a distance of 15.84m (51’11.75”).

Freshman Alexander Reese won the 400 meters with a time of 48.61.

Also for the men, Senior Perron Jones finished in the top 10 with a seventh-place finish in the 100 meters (11.09) and senior Joseph Stowe took fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:53.41.

Three Jackets placed in the top 10 in the men’s 5,000 meters. Freshman Wyatt Gouldthorpe crossed the line first for Tech and in sixth place with a time of 14:56.96. Senior Niall Longobardi placed eighth (14:59.43) and sophomore Billy Koskiewicz took ninth place (14:59.59).

On the women’s side, sophomore Katie Townsend finished third in the women’s 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 17:04.14. Teammate Elena Hubbard also placed in the top 10 with an eighth place finish in a time of 17:57.71.

Sophomore Christina Pensock placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.99 and fellow sophomore Rachel Hammond finished the 1,500 meters in sixth place with a career-best time of 4:35.75.

The Jackets wrap up action at the Alabama Relays on Saturday. Action begins at 11 a.m. CT.
