Georgia Tech Receives Game Times For First Two Home Games

May 20, 2014

2014 Georgia Tech Football Schedule

THE FLATS – The Atlantic Coast Conference and the league’s television partners announced starting times for Georgia Tech’s first two home football games of the 2014 season.

The Yellow Jackets will host Wofford on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 12:30 p.m. That game will be televised by the Regional Sports Network, which includes Fox Sports South and reaches 71 million homes on average.

Two weeks later, on Sept. 13, Tech will host Georgia Southern in a game that will kick-off at noon, and will also be televised regionally by RSN.

Georgia Tech is offering ticket specials for both games. The season opener versus Wofford will be “Youth Day,” involving numerous pre-game promotions for kids and ticket programs for charitable children’s organizations. In addition, season ticket holders receive an exclusive bonus ticket offer for the game against the Terriers.

The Georgia Southern game is part of Family Weekend on the Flats with special programmed activities and ticket offers for the families of Georgia Tech students.

Georgia Tech and Wofford will meet in football for the first time since 1901. The Yellow Jackets will play Georgia Southern for the first time ever.

In between the Yellow Jackets’ first two home games is a Sept. 6 road game at Tulane. That game time will be determined at a later date, prior to the start of the season. Kick-off times for Georgia Tech’s remaining nine games will be determined in-season by the ACC’s television partners, generally announced 12 days before the game.

The Regional Sports Network (RSN) features one ACC football game each week and includes Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Carolinas, Fox Sports Florida (or Sun Sports), Comcast Sports Net Mid-Atlantic, New England Sports Network (NESN), the YES Network (or MSG Network in New York) and Root Sports in Pennsylvania, in addition to several other RSNs nationally.

Notes on Tech’s first two home opponents:

Georgia Southern (7-4 in 2013)
The Eagles went 4-4 in the Southern Conference and are in transition from FCS to the FBS level where they will play in the Sun Belt Conference… Georgia Southern has a new coach in former Sam Houston State coach Willie Fritz, who replaced Jeff Monken, the former Georgia Tech assistant coach who is now the head coach at Army… GSU closed the 2013 regular season with three straight wins, highlighted by a 26-20 win over Florida in “The Swamp”… Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern will meet for the first time ever on the gridiron.

Wofford (5-6 in 2013)
The Terriers went 4-4 in the Southern Conference, arguably the strongest FCS conference… Wofford was 5-2 before going on a four-game losing streak to end the season… the Terriers beat Georgia Southern, 30-20… Wofford opened the 2013 season on the road against Baylor (69-3 loss)… Georgia Tech and Wofford have just one previous meeting – 113 years ago… the Yellow Jackets beat Wofford 33-0 on Oct. 18, 1901 in Augusta, Ga.
