Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

THE FLATS – Roberto Castro and Cameron Tringale team up to give each other a boost in the FedEx Cup race … Larry Mize teams up with a Bulldog on the Champions Tour … Chris Petefish joins the Web.com Tour gang this weekend … this and more in the Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report.

It was a mixed bag for the Yellow Jackets competing in team golf last weekend, however, Roberto Castro and Cameron Tringale enjoyed a highly successful tournament. Stepping to the first tee, appropriately, to the sound of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Born on the Bayou,” they tied for fifth place in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, combining to post a 20-under-par total of 268, six shots off the pace in the event that features two rounds of best ball and two rounds of alternate shot play.

Both players made significant jumps in the FedEx Cup standings with their performance, Castro 26 spots to No. 112, and Tringale 29 positions to No. 137. The rest of the Yellow Jackets, however, missed the cut. Anders Albertson and Seth Reeves teamed up in the event, while Chesson Hadley, Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski competed with non-Tech partners.

Larry Mize teamed up with a Georgia graduate, Scott Parel, to tie for 17th at last weekend’s Bass Pro Legends of Golf, a two-man best-ball event in Ridgedale, Mo. They combined for an 11-under-par total of 168.

All seven of the former Jackets are in the field for this week’s Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Web.com Tour: All four Yellow Jackets – Vincent Whaley, J.T. Griffin, Nicholas Thompson and Paul Haley II – missed the 36-hole cut at the Dormie Network Classic at Briggs Ranch last weekend in San Antonio. The foursome moves to Nashville, Tenn., this week for the Nashville Golf Open. Chris Petefish will join them after firing a 63 in Monday qualifying.

Mackenzie Tour: James Clark, a fifth-year senior on Georgia Tech’s current team, and 2015 graduate Drew Czuchry attempted to qualify for the Canadian Tour last week at its USA East 2 qualifier at TPC Sawgrass (Dye’s Valley Course) in Ponte Vedra, Fla. Czuchry, who has played in developmental tours since his graduation, tied for 20th place, missing out on qualification for the season’s first half by three strokes, while Clark, competing as an amateur, tied for 72nd.
