Jordan Delass fell in three sets (6-7, 6-4, 6-0) to Clemson’s Brett Twente at No. 5 singles as the Tigers posted a 4-3 win over Georgia Tech Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Clemson improves to 15-2, 1-0 ACC while the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-3, 0-1 ACC.
This marks the third consecutive match with the Tigers that has resulted in a 4-3 score.
The Jackets opened the match by capturing the doubles point by winning all three matches as David North and Marko Rajevac combined to defeat Nathan Thompson and Ryan Young at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, while at No. 2 doubles Scott Blackmon and Jose Muguruza beat Sander Koning and Twente, 8-5 and Noah Tyler and Delass paired at No. 3 doubles to post a win over Clement Reix and Ian Keeler, 8-2.
Tech could not carry its momentum into the singles matches as the Jackets were able to secure points at No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles. Zachary Rath posted a three set win over Young, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) while George Gvelesiani was a winner over Clint Boling, 7-5, 6-0.
In the other singles matches, No. 20 Muguruza fell to No. 52 Nathan Thompson, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, North lost at No. 2 singles to Koning, 6-1, 7-5 and at No. 3 singles Rajevac was defeated by Reix, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Yellow Jackets will play host to Miami , FL on Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center at 12 p.m.
