Galarza Concludes Season at NCAA Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech cross country concluded the 2022 season with Liz Galarza competing in the women’s 6K at the NCAA Championships.

After a successful senior cross country campaign, Galarza raced against the top runners in the country in the women’s 6K and finished with a time of 21:27.5.

Throughout the season, Galarza was a top performer for the Jackets. She started the fall out with a first-place finish at Berry’s Watermelon Run. Galarza also led the women’s team to several top five team finishes at competitive meets throughout the season.

At the North Alabama Showcase, Tech placed third in the women’s 5K behind Galarza’s fourth-place individual finish and career-best time of 16:39.0. The senior was once again the top runner for the women at the Penn State National Open. Galarza placed third and the team finished fourth overall, defeating ACC opponent and nationally ranked Syracuse.

Last week, Galarza secured her spot at the national meet with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA South Regional Championships. She earned All-South Region honors, had the best individual finish of all Tech runners and ran a new personal-best time of 19:55.4 in the women’s 6K.

Competitive Drive Initiative
In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
