Friday Afternoon Practice Canceled And Other Football Notes

Aug. 15, 2008

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech’s final day of two-a-days turned out to be a one-a-day.

The Yellow Jackets practiced for two hours Friday morning in full pads. The afternoon practice, which was scheduled to be an abbreviated, one-hour workout, was canceled. The team will still have meetings in the afternoon, followed by a team barbecue Friday evening.

The final practice open to the public is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Bobby Dodd Stadium, where the Jackets are expected to scrimmage for close to two hours. Beginning Monday, all practices will be closed.

ABOUT SATURDAY’S SCRIMMAGE
Fans (or media) planning to attend Saturday morning’s practice should enter through Gate 9, which is located in the center of the East stands on Techwood Drive. The tunnel and other gates that are normally open for a stadium practice will be closed. It should also be noted that traffic on Techwood Drive may be closed, or partially closed, because students are moving in.

WALKER PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA
The Sports Illustrated Preseason All-American Team includes just one player from the ACC — Yellow Jacket senior defensive tackle Vance Walker.

OTHER ITEMS
– Sophomore quarterback Josh Nesbitt and senior offensive tackle Andrew Gardner both sat out of Friday’s practice and both are expected to miss Saturday’s practice. Both, however, are listed as day to day and are not considered in jeopardy of missing the Aug. 28 season opener.
– The Russell Athletic Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, beginning at 11:30 a.m., at Twelve. Confused? Twelve is the name of the hotel in Atlantic Station that will host the event.
– The Georgia Tech Football Kickoff Banquet is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.
