Freshman Howard Leads Tech Track and Field at Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Georgia Tech freshman Chaunte Howard had an impressive collegiate debut Friday, as she placed second and provisionally qualified for the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships in the high jump at the Kentucky Invitational at the Wildcats’ Nutter Field House.

Howard cleared a height of 5’11.25″ to earn the runner-up finish.

On the men’s side, Tech dominated the triple jump, placing second through fourth. Senior Brian Fraser led the way with a runner-up finish and a mark of 47’4.50″. Junior Spencer Irvine took third, while senior Chris Crawley placed fourth.

Other strong finishes for the Tech men came from sophomore Alex Berardi, who took third in the pole vault, and classmate Ian Brewer, who finished third in the weight throw.

The meet resumes Saturday morning.
