Five Former Jackets in WNBA Training Camps

April 16, 2008

ATLANTA – Chioma Nnamaka, a 2008 WNBA second round selection by the Atlanta Dream, is one of five former Georgia Tech women’s basketball players who will be competing for a roster spot this preseason in the women’s professional basketball league.

Nnamaka will be joined by former Yellow Jacket teammate Jill Ingram in Atlanta for the Dream’s inaugural training camp. Former standouts Kasha Terry and Stephanie Higgs will suit up for the Indiana Fever and 2008 third-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree Janie Mitchell will look for a spot on the Sacramento Monarch’s roster.

“It is very exciting for our program to have five of our players involved in WNBA training camps,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “Our goal every year is to have our players play at the next level. To have three players this year have that opportunity is a great compliment to our program.”

Nnamaka, Ingram and Mitchell helped the Jackets to back-to-back 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament berths for the first time in school history. The team’s 22 wins in 2007-08 is the most in a season since joining the ACC prior to the 1979-80 season.
