COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Ryan Bishop, freshman Noah Copeland and seniors Teemu Kettunen and Sam Morgan posted NCAA `B’ standards during the Friday preliminaries of the 2006 Men’s Atlantic Coast Conference Championships to advance to finals tonight to lead Georgia Tech.
Morgan and Bishop clocked NCAA `B’ times in the 400-yard individual medley to qualify for the championship finals tonight. Morgan swam a season-best time of 3:53.44, while Bishop posted a season-best time of 3:53.58.
Kettunen finished third in the prelims of the 100 butterfly with a personal-record and NCAA `B’ standard time of 48.55 to advance to the championship finals.
Also qualifying for the championship finals for the Jackets were Copeland and junior Alex Williams. Copeland clocked a NCAA `B’ cut and personal-best time of 1:38.09 in the 200 free. Williams posted a lifetime-best time of 55.79 in the 100 breaststroke to finish sixth.
Senior Jason Howard and junior Ofer Finkler qualified for the consolation finals for the Yellow Jackets in the 200 free. Howard swam a season-best time of 1:38.58, while Finkler posted a lifetime-best time of 1:39.69.
Sophomores Jason Bourgeois and Onur Uras qualified for the consolation finals for Tech during the Friday morning session. Bourgeois posted a lifetime-best time of 50.09 in the 100 backstroke, while Uras posted a season-best time of 49.80 in the 100 fly.
