May 26, 2010

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech shortstop Derek Dietrich has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) this week.

It is the second straight year the Parma, Ohio native earns Academic All-America honors, after he was named to the second-team in 2009. Dietrich joins Nomar Garciaparra (1993 and 1994) and L.J. Yankosky (1997 and 1998) as the only Georgia Tech players to ever earn the honor twice in a career.

Dietrich is batting .374 with 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 58 RBI in his third season on the Flats while maintaining a 3.40 cumulative GPA as a management major at Georgia Tech.

The Jackets begin play at the 2010 ACC Championships on Thursday, with an 8 p.m. game against Virginia Tech at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C.
