Cowden Lands on ACC All-Tournament Team

PITTSBURGH – Senior outfielder Kennedy Cowden has been named to the 2022 ACC Softball All-Tournament Team, the league office announced on Saturday. The honorary team is comprised of 11 top performers from tournament play, including the tournament MVP.

The senior slugger exploded at the dish during the ACC tournament, unloading two home runs against No. 9 Duke and tallying four RBI through both contests against the Blue Devils and NC State. Cowden finished 4-for-7 with a pair of runs scored to bat .571 on the week, slugging at a gaudy 1.429 clip and averaging a .571 on-base percentage in the tournament.

In the opening round against No. 10 seed NC State, Cowden started off her week batting .667 as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The Powell, Tenn., native’s RBI single came at a crucial time against the Wolfpack, tying the game at 2-2 as the Jackets rolled on to a 4-2 triumph.

Facing No. 2 seed Duke, Cowden kept Tech alive with a pair of monumental swings as she went 2-for-4 with a couple of dingers for three RBI and two runs scored. The lefty mashed a solo shot in the top of the sixth, drawing the White and Gold within a run. In her next at bat with the Jackets down to their final out in the top of the seventh, Cowden once again went yard, this time knocking a two-run longball to draw the Jackets back within striking distance.

The two round trips in the game equaled her season total as she moved up to four home runs on the year. The outing also marked the first time Cowden has tallied multiple home runs in a single game in her career. The powerful bat owns eight total home runs throughout her time on The Flats.
