Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – In its fourth-straight one-run ballgame, Georgia Tech baseball once again walked off an opponent as Drew Compton mashed a pinch-hit no-doubt home run with two strikes in the ninth to down North Carolina 10-9 on Friday night at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (27-21, 20-15 ACC) exploded for 17 hits, including three three-hit performances – Stephen Reid (who had a huge two-out, two-RBI double in the fourth), Andrew Jenkins (who’s home run in the eighth added insurance), and Luke Waddell (who went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk).

LHP Joseph Mannelly came in and provided crucial middle innings, settling the game with just one run on one hit over 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. LHP Luke Bartnicki (2-1) got the two-out decision win, allowing just one hit and getting a huge strikeout late.

The Tar Heels (26-21, 18-17 ACC) were led by Danny Serretti with a 2-for-4, two-RBI day. RHP Gage Gillian (1-2) received the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Georgia Tech finishes the regular season with a rubber match on Saturday, May 22 for a sold-out series finale against North Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra on WREK 91.1 FM.
