ATLANTA–Georgia Tech running back Tashard Choice has been granted an NCAA waiver for the residency requirement, meaning he will be eligible to compete for the Yellow Jackets in 2005.
Choice, a rising redshirt sophomore from Riverdale, Ga., enrolled at Tech in January after transferring from Oklahoma. He appealed to the NCAA and was granted the waiver due to extenuating family circumstances that necessitated him to move close to his home.
Choice, spent two seasons at Oklahoma, including a redshirt year in 2003. He will have three seasons of eligibility at Tech, beginning next fall.
“It was very important for me to be able to attend college close to home to be able to help my family,” said Choice, who attended Lovejoy High School. “I’m very happy to be at Georgia Tech, and now I’m very happy that I will have a chance to compete on the field this season with my new teammates.”
Georgia Tech head coach Chan Gailey said, “We’re very happy for Tashard. This was the right thing to do, and it is an opportunity for a deserving young man.”
