FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Elena Linn set a personal- and team season-best time in the women’s 3,000-meter run to lead the men’s and women’s track and field teams on day two of the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The Jackets were competing in the Tyson Center, which is set to host the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
Linn, a junior from Marietta, Ga., finished the 3,000m race in ninth place with a time of 9:54.50. Junior Nisha Kurian crossed the line in 12th place with a time of 9:58.47.
Senior Ashlee Kidd, who won the 400-meter dash on day one, placed 10th in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 23.51.
Senior David Herren set a season-best time of 4:12.70 in the men’s mile for a third-place finish. Herren also finished third in the men’s 3,000m run with a time of 8:24.05. Sophomore E.C. Gibbs crossed the line sixth in the mile with a time of 4:14.07. Gibbs also had a third-place finish, crossing the line in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.03.
Sophomore Juan Cave finished second in the men’s high jump clearing the bar at 6 feet, 10 ¾ inches. Senior James Lemons II also had a second-place finish, landing with a mark of 50 feet, ½ inch in the men’s triple jump.
The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track teams will return to action in two weeks at the ACC Championships, hosted by Clemson University, Feb. 22-24.
