ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (4-0) continues its dual season play when the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-0) travel to Atlanta for a noon match-up Sunday against the Yellow Jackets at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
“We are looking forward to a tough match against Mississippi State,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “They are a good team and play a very competitive schedule like we do. Both teams will be ready for a good match-up. We are hoping to get a good home crowd to make it tougher on our visitors this year and this will be a good one to see.”
The Jackets will look to even their series record with the Bulldogs at five apiece. The last meeting between the two squads came in 1990, with the Mississippi State earning the win.
Tech enters the match with four straight shutouts. Last week the Jackets swept USC Upstate and Georgia Southern in a pair of 7-0 wins. Senior Scott Blackmon and freshman Ryan Smith continued their strong doubles play with two victories in the No. 1 position. They have won eight of their ten doubles matches when paired together this year.
Tech will continue its dual match season with another Southeastern Conference opponent when Auburn comes to the Flats next Thursday, Feb. 14 at 2:00 p.m.
