Aug. 23, 2009

Georgia Tech is ranked 15th in the Associated Press preseason poll — the Yellow Jackets’ highest preseason ranking since 2001. The preseason poll was released Saturday.

Tech’s preseason ranking is its highest since being tabbed 10th in the 2001 preseason poll. Last season the Yellow Jackets were not ranked in the preseason poll, but rose to as high as 14th before being ranked 22nd in the final poll of the season.

The Jackets are one of four ACC teams in the AP preseason poll. Virginia Tech is ranked seventh, Florida State 18th and North Carolina 21st. Clemson, Miami, NC State and Boston College all received votes for the poll.

Georgia Tech is also ranked 15th in the USA Today Coaches Poll released earlier in August.

Where Tech ranks in the preseason polls:

11th, Sporting News
12th, Sports Illustrated
15th, Associated Press
15th, USA Today
16th, Lindy’s
22nd, Athlon
