ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Christy Striplin won her singles match in straight sets but the sixth-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 3 Georgia (13-2) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex Thursday evening.

Georgia opened the day by winning two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead on the Yellow Jackets (8-5). The point came down to the first flight where No. 30 Chelsey Gullockson and Nadja Gilchrist held off the 20th-ranked Yellow Jacket tandem of Noelle Hickey and Striplin for a 9-7 doubles win.

Tech pulled the score even at 1-1 behind Striplin’s 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 74 Monika Dancevic on court four. The Jackets would not get any closer.

Three of the remaining five singles matches went to three sets but the Jackets would come out on the losing end of each of those matches.

Tech will return home this weekend when it continues Atlantic Coast Conference play against No. 20 Virginia Saturday at noon and Virginia Tech Sunday at 11 a.m.
