ATLANTA (AP) -Javaris Crittenton scored 15 points and Anthony Morrow added 14 and Georgia Tech’s defense smothered outmanned St. Francis, Pa., 87-43 on Saturday night for the Yellow Jackets fourth straight victory.
Tech (10-3) put the game away early with a 24-0 run to take a 26-4 lead after 11 minutes as St.Francis had 10 turnovers during that span.
The Yellow Jackets are 8-0 at home and the win was their largest margin since a 90-40 win over Marist on Dec. 23, 2003.
Devin Sweetney led the Red Flash with 16 points.
Tech led 47-15 at the half as its defense forced 20 turnovers resulting in 25 points. Tech used 11 players and 10 scored with Crittenton and Ra’Sean Dickey leading with eight apiece. The Red Flash (4-8) hit on only 24 percent of its shots (6-for-25).
The Yellow Jackets biggest lead was 51 points at 81-30 on a basket by Morrow with 5:24 left.
Dickey and Alade Aminu added 10 points each for the Yellow Jackets who wound up forcing 28 turnovers for 36 points in the game.
The Yellow Jackets made 35-of-69 shots (53 percent). St. Francis hit on only 15-of-53 shots (28 percent).
One of the biggest cheers of the night came with about 7:50 left when the PA announcer said that Virginia Tech was leading Georgia 21-3 at the half of the Chick-Fil-A bowl game.
